Space Invaders: How New Players Will Rock the Banking World
Over the past few years, an ever-broadening array of tech-based banking alternatives from PayPal to M-Pesa and from mobile wallets to Bankmobile, have attracted the interest and patronage of millennials and others disaffected with fee-based banking services.
We’ll look at these intruders into the traditional retail banking space, and the strategies — involving new technologies, innovative programs and services, and meaningful marketing and branding — that some financial institutions have used to disrupt the disrupters.

Joshua Goines is the Senior Director of Global Business Development at PayPal, leading the strategy and execution of partnerships with Payment Networks and Financial Institutions. At PayPal, he has also held roles overseeing strategy and partnerships to grow PayPal’s in-store business. He has more than 15 years’ experience establishing and growing innovative new businesses related to payments and mobile technology, previously serving as the General Manager of GoBank, the award-winning checking account from Green Dot Corporation (NYSE: GDOT). During his tenure at Green Dot, Goines led distribution partnerships with key industry players, including Walmart
Glen Sarvady | Managing Principal | 154 Advisors
Glen Sarvady is a 20 year veteran of the payments industry. Through his firm 154 Advisors he helps FIs and their service providers navigate the rapidly evolving payments landscape through areas like digital wallets, the US EMV rollout and consumer segmentation. Previously Glen was the co-lead of McKinsey & Company’s Global Concepts payments unit, where he was the firm’s subject matter expert on electronic banking, bill payment and e-billing. Glen also held several senior operating and financial roles at electronic payments pioneer CheckFree prior to its acquisition by Fiserv. He is a former Federal Reserve bank examiner, an active board member of the Technology Association of Georgia’s FinTech society, and a founding board member of the University of Pennsylvania Students’ Federal Credit Union.
